Education

Master’s course

We discuss various issues with students that arise in the course of their master's thesis research and provide suggestions and advice from a broad perspective. We provide advice on experimental planning, technical acquisition, data analysis, and thesis writing, as well as direction on biological sampling and environmental measurement during the field survey. In addition, we aim to provide students with basic knowledge of aquatic biological science and to cultivate their creativity through lectures, seminars, research, and other educational activities. In the first year of the master's course, students are guided to acquire basic knowledge of aquatic bioscience mainly through lectures and seminars. At the same time, they are guided to acquire necessary experimental techniques, and collect samples and references in preparation for their master's thesis research. In the second year, students focus on research data collection for their master's thesis and make progress by giving mid-term presentations in the lab as needed.

Doctoral course

We discuss various issues with students that arise in the course of their doctoral thesis research, and provide suggestions and advice from a broad perspective. We provide advice on experimental planning, technical acquisition, data analysis, and thesis writing, as well as direction on biological sampling and environmental measurement during field survey. In addition, we aim to provide students with basic knowledge of aquatic biological science and to cultivate their creativity through lectures, seminars, research, and other educational activities. Furthermore, we train students on how to publish their research results through conference presentations and original papers. During the three years of the doctoral course, students focus on writing their doctoral thesis through advice and guidance by their supervisor on the structure of the paper, design of experiments, planning and operation of research, data analysis, and summarization of results. Mid-term presentations are given in the lab to share progress as needed. Furthermore, students are encouraged to present their research at conferences and symposiums and to write original papers.
